Problem matching dual monitors

I have a Dell 8200 desktop with a P4 1.8 processor and 512 MB or RAM. I recently installed a Matrox g450 video card so I could spread my Vegas work space over two monitors. Everything works great but I am having trouble matching my two monitors. Both monitors are Dell 17" flat screens. Even though the settings on the monitors are identical, the second monitor is much, much brighter. I have tried the card with two different second monitors and the results are the same. Can anyone let me know if I am missing something? Thanks for your help.

I run two monitors (both dell 19's). One is fed digital, the other is fed analog (I belive I have an ati card that has dual outputs).

Once I have them setup, I press the auto adjust button on each monitor. For me that's pressing the "+" button on the analog monitor. Does that help?

if not, there's a chance your matrox driver has the ability to adjust all kinds of parameters of the card/monitor. Try there.

Also, it may be worth swapping cables at the monitor end or computer end (not both) and seeing if the "problem" follows the monitor, or the output of the pc. This way you can tell if the monitor itself is adjusted differently or if the feed from the PC is different.

Sean,

I swapped the cables at the computer end and the result is the same. The same monitor that was overly bright was still overly bright. Does that mean the problem is witht he monitor (or its settings), not the signal coming out of the computer?

First of all, setting both monitors to the same numeric value settings doesn't guarantee identical results.

You might want to look into some monitor calibration software. The absolute best I have found is here:

Colorwizzard

It used to be called "Colorific" and I've been uing it for years to calibrate my computer monitors.
