Problem rendering .wmv

I have vegas 3 and can't render anything as wmv. I get this error 'error 0xc00d0bc2(message missing)', which appears immediately after it begins the render. I did a search on the knowledge base but didn't find anything. I am able to render in every other format I have tried (mpeg, avi, mov). Any ideas?

In case it helps, i have wm9 codec installed from microsoft site, os is xp.

Search for "message missing". I got 96 hits. That ought to keep you quiet for a while (sorry).
I've had that problem, but I'm on Win98se. SoFo is working to find out what causes it. MP9 (and/or its codecs) seem to be very much involved.
There is a wmfdist2.exe file you can run that fixes it in some cases. Get it off SoFo's site or Microsoft's.
In my case a complete re-install of Vegas fixed it. (Un-install it first, then delete the Vegas folder under Program Files/Sonic Foundry, then install).

Yay! Problem fixed with the windows patch. Thanks Tor!

P.S. *mutter* *grumble* Who would have thought to do a search for 'message missing' *rolls eyes* *mutter* :^)
