Problem scrolling with mouse through various fonts in text generator

I have upgraded to Vegas 4.0b and somehow when I am using the text generator, having my mouse cursor right over the font selection window, highlighting the font window, I use to be able to scroll through various fonts and I was able to see them change in the preview window as I was scolling with my mouse or with the up and down arrows. But now it just doesn't behave like it used to. I might be able able to scroll down one font and that's it.

I have tried this on my other computer, same problem.

So I thought I would try the Legacy Plug-in Text generator and the Legacy Plug-in Video Factory Text Generator and, with these 2 text generators, it works! I can scroll through the various fonts and have them show up in the preview monitor as I am scrolling.

Somehow I prefer using the text generator because of it's placement option.

Could this be a bug in 4.0b

With 4.0b I was experiencing what I initially would have described exactly as you have. I watch text on an external monitor while I use the arrow keys to quickly move through the font list, but after 4.0b the arrow keys didn't change the font selection anymore.

What I found, at least for me, is that it wasn't the arrow keys that quit working but 4.0b just got stuck on certain fonts. If I used my mouse and manually moved the selection to some later font then I could continue scrolling with the arrow keys again. I had maybe five or six fonts that 4.0b got stuck on, one of which happened to be at the top of the list.

I reported this a while ago (http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=165468).

Page Up and Page Down allow one to leapfrog the obstacles (as long as the font one page up or down doesn't also lack the required character set) and scrolling can then be resumed with the arrow keys.

I've noticed this too... exactly as you've reported barleycorn. Getting stuck on a font is very odd.

Regarding scrolling through the fonts, I've found you can still scroll through the fonts if you first highlight the text in the preview window. Otherwise, as soon as you scroll (I use the arrow keys), focus goes right back to the preview window. Seems like a regression to me, I hope they fix this in 4.0c.

There are actually two separate issues:

1. If there's no selected text the font selection changes the entire text. If one tabs back to the font list, scrolling using the arrow keys can continue (whatever the next font in the list) but - frustratingly - the focus is lost to the Text Input Area at each change.

2. If some or all of the text is selected, the font selection will change the selected characters (as it should) and the font list retains the focus during scrolling. The problem is that if the next font in the list doesn't support the requisite character set, scrolling comes to a halt (though this can be overcome with Page Up, Page Down etc.).

Obviously neither of these things is the end of the world but neither should they be too difficult to fix (especially the former).

In case anyone from Sonic Foundry is reading this thread, thank you very much for Postscript font support. Bitmap fonts aren't rendered correctly (I've previously mentioned this elsewhere I think) but it's very unlikely one would want to use them anyway (they probably shouldn't be in the font list).
