Problem trying to record a voiceover track

I am having a problem trying to record a voiceover track. No matter what I've tried doesn't seem to work. I have a microphone that will successfully record wave files on Windows recorder and on audacity and other recording programs on my computer. I have just installed the Sony Vegas Studio platinum 9.0 B.. I've tried everything I know and still can't can't do a successful voiceover.

When I record to the voice track timeline it looks like it is successful until I go to save the file and then there is no sound on the file that is saved. Anyone got any clue as to what might be the problem or how it can be fixed?

I also have Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 6.0 installed. I bought the 9.0 B. as an upgrade to that. But the 9.0 B. installed as a separate program. Neither program works when the voice recording to the timeline. Same problem with both. Would this be a problem having both of them installed on the same computer?. Would it affect the voice sound recording?. Thanks for any help I can get with this.

If you see the waveforms when recording, but flatlines when done, it means it is not writing the temp file to the folder you chose in the first step.

Make sure you have administrator priveleges, turn off UAC in Vista, and see this thread about Kaspersky to get more clues towards pinpointing the issue.

Musicvid. Thanks very much for your advice on how to correct the problem recording sound on Vegas Studio. Your advice worked as I do have Kaspersky Internet Security installed, and yes, it was that program that was preventing successful voice recording from happening. I was able to program Kaspersky to allow voice recording on Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b and 6.0.
