While updating to Vegas 7.0 I got this message that Microsoft SQL server MSDE is not compatable with Vista. I dont know what this even is. Do I need it. I went to Microsoft website and they reccomend a different version for Vista should I download it or can I do without it
Unfortunately Vegas7 isn't fit for use under Vista in that you can't cleanly install it with just a handful of clicks. VegasPro8 that is due out on Monday is likely to work fine though.
Sony have been updating their catalogue throughout 2007 and they've created a 'Vista' forum to allow users to share their experiences and workarounds.
The security services and resources that come with Vista just don't fit earlier versions of Vegas, some aspects of device I/O but predominantly the asset management parts of this NLE.
I've found it is fairly workable if you follow some of the major recommendations on the other forum list here.
I've downloaded/installed the trial for SoundForge 9 - this has an updated asset manager. I've tweaked the execute-bit security settings of Vista. All manner of things. However if time is money, buying a copy of XP Home might be better if you need to get this working cleanly ready for the weekend.
At this point we don't know if the launch on Monday will only allow you to pay for VegasPro8. Fulfillment as physical product or an ESD may take longer, I don't know.
There are many other pointers in the Vegas Video forum list too, but the bulk of the information is in the Vista support forum here.
Also when I try and run 7.0 it saks for a serial number. i tried to use the number from 6.0 but it didnt work. Where do I get the number from.
Sorry if this is a dumb question.
p.s. I think I will stick with 6.0 for now I've never really had a need for anything more I just thought if the update would be as simple as a few clicks then I would do it.
