Problem with a 3D effect

I'm trying to set up 3D effect of 2 different graphic elements to make a cube. I've never worked with the 3D effects so I'm starting slowly and trying to get 2 sides of the cube created and working. I want them to rotate in a 360 degree rotation but the problem I'm having is that once I get these 2 elements set up when I preview the clip, the elements are not separated. As they rotate, they are stuck tightly together. I've set the Z parameter for the Position group to 400 and the 2 elements are children of my parent track. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to get this effect working? The graphic elements are .gifs if that makes a difference.

There was a sample project that used to ship with Vegas that showed how to create a box / cube complete with opening lid. Most frustrating that these projects don't seem available for download from this site. Hint, hint, SCS.

Anyways see if you can find "cube w shadows.veg", it did ship with Version 6. If you come up empty handed drop me an email and I'll email it to you, it is a very small file.

Well, since you told us where to find it Bob, a bit of snooping and guess what - go to the vegas family download page at
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily
go down to the Vegas 6 section and there is a link to download the sample project files for Vegas 6 (220 megs). Thanks !! Now I have a copy of that (I had spent quite a while looking for the cube demo some time ago).
