problem with DVD Architect 4

Finatic13 wrote on 9/25/2007, 1:17 AM
I know a lot of users of DVDA read this forum but not the DVDA one so posted it here,

Ie created a dvd with menus buttons etc all is well except one small thing.

Ive used text only buttons and used the text mask highlight for selected buttons. i run the preview DVD and everything is fine, all the buttons highlight correctly and go to the right chapter points.
I make the DVD then burn to a disc and ONE of the text buttons is a problem, the text mask highlight doesnt line up over the actual text (it works) but the highlight text if like 3 font sizes smaller. However, if i open the DVD's video_ts folder on my hard drive with VLC player and play it on my PC it all highlights fine!!

Im totally baffled and have burned a couple of discs to see if there was a problem with the burn, ive even just re made the DVD for 3 hours and still the problem is there!!

anyone any idea whats going on ?

Which version of DVDA are you using?
Is the DVD 16:9 or 4:3.

I've had a very similar problem with DVDA and the text highlight ending up at the wrong PAR. It does seem to be fixed in DVDA 4.5 but I haven't tested it very thoroughly.

Hi
DVDA 4.0 its a 16:9 PAL project, EVERYTHING in the whole project is working and as it should be apart from this one button!

OK,
play it back on a DVD player setup for a 16:9 TV and I'll bet it looks just fine.
Change the DVD players setup to letterbox 16:9 for a 4:3 TV and you'll likely get your problem back.
I suspect the visibility of the problem relates to the location of the text in the frame.

The only problem I've had is using the text highlight with 16:9 DVDs.

You're lucky you've seen it. We had 1,000s of DVDs duplicated with this problem in them.

Only solution I have is DVDA 4.5.

I believe this was fixed in 4.0b. I think I was one of the first to report this problem and worked with the techs to resolve.

Download the update from here and try it.

I create my menus in 4 x 3. That way they look fine on a 4x3 TV and get stretched on 16 x 9, bu the buttons seem to line up correctly.

Whoa,
there's two ways to set a DVD player up for 16:9, need to get into the menu.

1) Play 16:9 out as 16:9 i.e. it's connected to a 16:9 TV.
2) Play out 16:9 letterboxed to 4:3 i.e. connected to a 4:3 TV.

The problem I've had only shows up in scenario 2.
I'd always checked the DVDs using a 16:9 TV, figured the player would take care of the conversion. I only found out about the problem when the client rings up to complain. It wasn't very obvious with short text in the centre of the screen either but the chapter menus with long titles is where it was really obvious.

I've since checked it on a total of 5 DVD players and once setup correctly they all show the problem. Except I could not repo it on a PC based player.
