Problem with editing/reading flow

Good afternoon,

I am experiencing some problems wth the editing flow.
What happens is when I play my time line to check my editing, regularly the reading stop and continue 1 or 2 seconds after! In other words, the picture in the preview window stops moving and after 1 or 2 seconds it continues (at the point it should be at that time if no stop had happened - it's like a jump!). But the cursor continue runing as well as the sound. It is only the picture that stop.

And this happens even when I use the oprion "Draft full" in the preview window.

This phenomenon started recently (I was still using Vegas 6) and continue with the upgrade of Vegas 8 Pro that I've just purchased.

What can be the problem? Can it be Vegas itself or a problem with my video card (which is a Matrox Millenium P750)?

Thank you for your help
Videojohn

What does the preview windows "display" section read? Does it say it runs full 25fps (or whatever your project is) Or does it go down with the "jump".

A couple of things to check:

Is your video on an external drive? USB? What you see could be indicative of disk access issues.

One thing for smooth editing is to make sure your disks are defragmented.

I've had this problem with some firewire drives. If you look at the frame count in the preview window you'd probably see the frame number follwed by "...."

Thank you for the responses.

As you indicated Sami, I checked the "display" inthe preview window and in fact it shows 25 fps but when the jump occrs it goes down!. It even goes down sometimes (to around 23 fps) but without jumping.

I'll also try to defragment my disks. And yes when the jump occurs the frame count in the display windows is followed by "......"

But what is strange is that I am using the same hardware that I was using before and I had no problems. Should I configure anything in Vegas?

Thanks
