Problem with MPEG editing.....

OK, I have an MPEG1 file that plays perfectly in WMP....

I wanted to add some text, so I opened it up in the Vegas Timeline, but halfway through the clip (it's a 51 minute clip btw), there's a dead spot in the sound....

For about 10 minutes straight, the audio flatlines, then goes back to normal....

What's weird is that when I play it in the preview screen, everything plays fine (I hear all the normal sounds, even when it flatlines the audiotrack)

However, when I try to render the file, all of the flatlined audio is completely silent...

Anyone ever experience this problem?

Vegas doesn't do compressed video very well .. what I've found is best, is to render the mpg to an avi, back out .. then edit, then recompress to mpg..

for straight mpeg edits/joins, i use the tools at boilsoft.com
