Problem with mpeg1 files

I am having trouble getting certain mpeg1 files into V4. I have a video only stream file that is approx. 1.3 gig in size. It plays in mediaplayer fine, but V4 doesn't seem to recognize the format [mpv] (I get no file info in status area). If I load it into TMPEG and multiplex a bit of it with it's corresponding audio file [mp2], the result will load into V4 as expected. The problem with this is that the audio needs to be resynched with the video so I wanted to have the streams seperately.

I have had this problem of V4 not recognizing the format of the file even though they were basic streams, whether they were mpeg1 or mpeg2, with and without audio. Even changing the file extension did not help. Also .VOB files load with no audio.

How is V4 figuring out the type of file that one is trying to add to a project?
....and more importantly, anyone know how to get around my original problem without having to multiplex the streams first?

Any NLE can have problems importing mpg1/2 video depending on the settings and software used for encoding. I always advise using dvd2avi & vfapi to get the video into most any nle - see doom9.org for downloads and guides.

That said, Vegas may not recognize the file extension - could be as simple as that - & in many cases you can import these files through the import menus rather then drag & drop.

When you do load mpg1/2 or vobs with ac3, the audio will not appear - Vegas does not decode them, so have to convert to wav first. Personally, when dealing with mpg1/2 with audio, like to demux out the audio, convert to wav, then import that.
