❗ Problem Opening VEGAS Effects Project – Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated

Hello everyone,
I'm reaching out in hopes that someone here might be able to help with a situation I'm facing.

A client recently requested some additional edits to a video I created a few years ago. The issue is that part of the original project—specifically the animated text—was created using VEGAS Effects. As you probably know, VEGAS Effects has been discontinued and is no longer accessible.

Unfortunately, I can no longer open the .vegfx file, which means I can't proceed with the necessary edits.
Does anyone know if there's a way to open VEGAS Effects project files without the original software?
Or perhaps a workaround using HitFilm, since VEGAS Effects was built on the same engine?

If I could just open the file, the fix would be quick—but without access, I'm facing the painful task of recreating all the animated text across the entire video from scratch.

Any advice, suggestions, or workarounds would be sincerely appreciated. 🙏

Not entirely true. If you had it in the past it should continue to work standalone. I am still using it successfully.

And yes, in theory you can edit a vegx file in Hit Film Pro:

Here's how you can import a .vegfx file into HitFilm Pro:

Open HitFilm Pro

Start the HitFilm Pro application.
Import Composite Shot: In the Media panel, click the "Import" button and then select "Composite Shot" from the dropdown menu.
Select the VEGAS Effects Project: Browse to the location of your .vegfx file and select it.
Choose Composite Shot Timeline: A window will appear listing the composite shot timelines within the project. Choose the one you want to import.
Import: Click "Import," and a new folder will be created in the Media panel, containing the imported composite shot and any associated media.

How you then extract a vegx from HitFilm Pro I am not so sure about.
