Problem With Platinum!!! Please Help!!!!!!

VernontheIII wrote on 8/21/2006, 9:15 AM
Here’s my problem.

I have a lot of Sony products and the problem is the same on all of them. I CANT PLAY BACK ANYTHING I DO!!!!! I can edit and do everything else but when I press play to see what it did it comes of with this error. "An error occurred while starting playback. An invalid device was specified". Almost the same error occurs when I use any of my other Sony products. I've tried uninstalling them and reinstalling them but the same thing happens. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix it pleas help!!!!!!!

Soundcard?? I have Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 platinum. Why would the sould card have anything to do with the problem?? I've been able to play back my stuff in the past.

Uhh maybe it's Vernon the 3rd, but still not a very nice responce to the Sony Admin, especially in the wrong forum....maybe the "3rd" post will be nicer.

Perhaps Vernon has preview set to external monitor? Does Studio Platinum offer that feature?

*sheesh* for how cheap the upgrade is, i really should pick up a copy of Studio Platinum so i can answer these questions. ;)

You can "upgrade" to Platinum from Vegas?

I didn't mean to have a bad response. I was just wondering why he (or she) wondered about the sound card. So please accept my apologies. I might have my video playback set to an external monitor but the same error occurs on all of my Sony products when I press the play button. And again, sorry if I sounded rude.

Oh and on the little error message box that comes up, when i press details it says:

The playback device does not support the current output format.
The playback device does not exist.

Because computers can very finicky things, so any number of pieces of hardware can be a problem for any number of other pieces of hardware / software. If ForumAdmin (who is a Sony personnel) asks what soundcard you're using, there's a good chance that they are aware of one or more soundcards causing a problem similar to yours.

Ditto. I don't even own any version of Vegas Movie Studio, but I've often thought of buying a copy for the same reason. That and it seems like VMS is getting to be almost as good as Vegas itself. <g>

I know what you mean. I was just looking at my friends Vegas 6.

And anybody that has any ideas for me to try, I'm getting really desperate. I just shot a movie and then this happens.
