Problem with Vegas on the iMac

I'm having a problem with my new iMac and have been fighting it and asking about it on different forums for almost two months.

The problem is Vegas "sees" and controls the camera just fine in the capture mode, but it won't let me preview externally (via firewire pass-through), and it won't let me print to tape. It does turn the camera on (Sony Z1U) and starts the record mode, but no video or audio gets through. It's very frustrating.

I've tried different cables, both firewire ports and different cameras. It's always the same.

It was doing the same thing on the OSX side, but FCP has a "refresh camera" option and that cured it, there. I can't find anything similar in Vegas or Windows. Sony tech support is apparently stumped, and Apple just tells me they don't support Windows apps.

24" iMac, 2.86 ghz, 4 megs RAM, Leopard. In every other respect, the machine is awesome and Vegas works very well with it.

Has anyone else come across this, and do you know of any possible fixes?

Thanks, and Happy New Year...

Can I clarify, are you trying to output a DV stream to preview on the Z1's screen?

Yes. I would also like to use a small DV camera as a pass-through device for external monitoring. And of course being able to print to tape would be nice. I can do both from the OSX side in FCP, but not in Vegas from the Windows side. I'm pretty sure this is a Leopard issue that's designed to punish people for using the WIndows side of their iMacs, but Apple won't admit it, of course. I have a friend who has Tiger on his 2-year-old iMac and Sony Vegas works flawlessly on it. I was hoping Sony would have a solution, but they seem as frustrated with the issue as I am.

Are you running Windows through Bootcamp, VM Fusion, or Parallels?

Are you running XP or Vista?

Which service packs?
