Problem with VOB - Help

Vegas Users,

I need some feedback. I am currently in the process of inserting a *.vob file onto the timeline. I have copied the file from the DVD to the hard drive to do this.

I can watch the vob through DVDMax Player and I watch the whole 5 minutes. When I drop it into Vegas I only get the first 40 seconds.

I have tried renaming the file to *.mpeg and *.avi files and have the same impact. Does anyone have any explanation or suggestion?

Thank you,
Chad

Do you have access to something like the PEGASYS TEMPGEnc Mpeg Editor or NERO? You might want to have a look at the file from a second, editing, app. Just a thought, very strange behavior. Darryl

Is the vob from a copy protected DVD?

The disc is not copy protected. After renameing the vob into a mpg I dropped it into Movie Maker and received the same result of only seeing the first 40 secs.

After experiencing this I took a different DVD and successfully loaded its vob into Vegas, so I am confident that I am doing the process correctly.

The DVD that is not working.... only has a video_ts folder compared to a usual audio_ts and video_ts folder. Could there be a problem with the ecoding of the DVD?

Thanks,
Chad

If you have Vegas 6, try File > Import > DVD Camcorder Disc... and see if that gives different results. (worth a try) I have never had a problem just dropping a VOB file on the timeline but maybe there is something unique about this one.

That worked.... I used JonnyRoy's suggestion. It worked just as would be expected. That is a feature I have used very little, so I over looked it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

HA - same problem & this handles the VOB. Thank you. Search the VMS manual for 'camcorder' for these directions. It seems the VOB is made of several chapters that must be broken apart . Learn something new every day. Bob
