problems *.avi files

I used Studio DC10 Plus to extract video/audio from a tape I had. I was using their program to edit the footage but it crashed and all the my hard work was gone. Anyways, I wanted to try VF in hopes it would not crash and leave me out in the cold. So I downloaded the demo and tried to open the avi files that I have saved. It opens them but only has the audio, no video. When using the media pool, import media, it states by the video that 'Stream attributes could not be...' that is all i can read but I can guess that it can't read the format. But Media player seems to not have a problem reading and playing the file. Please help.

Thanks in advance,
Jason

Jason,

Do you still have the Pinnacle software installed? The video that you captured is compressed with their M-JPEG codec, and this codec must be installed for the video to be editable. The first thing to try is just to reinstall the Pinnacle card and software if either has been removed. Failing that, there are some third-party M-JPEG codecs available on the internet, and they seem to work pretty well with Pinnacle-captured video. Here are a few companies that make software M-JPEG codecs that should work with your video:

Morgan Multimedia
Lead Tools
Main Concept

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the help. Pinnacle unfortunantly doesn't currently support Win2k yet with dc10 plus hardware so I couldn't install the software or drivers :( But hopefully this will help and get me on my way. Again thank you very much.
