Problems capturing from Sony FX1

Hi,
I am facing problems, capturing from Sony FX1E. When I connect it to my PC and turn it on (VCR), windows doesn´t even show me a window to ask me what I´d like to do. It does with my Panasonic NV-MX500.

I do have installed all available Windows Updates and I did set [VCR HDV/DV] to [HDV] and [i.Link CONV] to [OFF] on the camera.

If I start CineForm HDLink, it tells me "no video capture devices available right now."

Any idea what I may have done wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Wolfgang

YES!
You need to have the camera / deck all connected and switch the thing off and on, perhaps more than once, to wake Windoz up and the VCR/Camera has to be in HDV mode while you do that. I found initially Windoz identified it as a DV deck, Vegas would see it which meant CF VidCap wouldn't. Of course you should exit Vegas during the capture process.

So don't panic, try a few times and it does come to life.

Oh and you are running XP, right?

farss,
thanks a lot for your answer. In the meantime I tried it on my notebook and it does work there. So all the setting should actually be OK. Did anyone else have problems like mine so far?

And: yes, it is XP. Sorry!

Go to this post I had and follow DSE's steps, that should get you going.

You have XP SP2 on both computers ?

I did have problems as in initially CF and the camera wouldn't connect. I didn't change anything to make it work, just gave it a few goes of turning deck off/on and/or unplugging/plugging in deck.

I had similar problems. It was been awhile, but I had to install sp2, and I think I went and deleted the camera in the hardware manager or something. I was also having issues with the 1394 chipset not being a Texas Instruments. It would work fine for all the normal dv stuff, but didn't work very well with the fx1.

Good luck.

Thank you all,
I do have SP2 installed allready.

I am facing problems to identify the camera in the device manager, since I am using german windows (I am from Austria). Unfortunately it doesn´t seem to be there. Would somebody of you be so kind to look at the screenshot?

Does anybody find it there?

The strange thing about it is:
When I turn on the FX1, the PC doesn´t make the standard sound. It "says" something like "dingdingding" instead of the usual "dingdong". When I turn it off again, it does make "dingdong" though.

Meanwhile I am using my notebook, but this isn´t a status for eternity.

Thanks again,
Wolfgang

That sounds about right from memory, Windows doesn't identify it as a DV device. Makes sense as it isn't a standard DV device. I assume you have both the camera and the 1394 interface on the camera configured as HDV?

According to your screenshot the camera is not recognized.
It should list as "AV/C Bandgerät" as the second entry under "Audio-, Video- und Gamecontroller" (right after "Audiocodecs").
Since you have the right software the next move should be to change the firewire card and see if that helps. Not all cards work with all kind of devices correctly (I did have a couple of problems here myself - although in my case it was the scanner that made problems).
