Problems in Windows Media Video V8 rendering

I am using VV 3.0 build 76.

When I render a clip with Windows Media Video V8, it gets to 100% and then just sits there for a few minutes. It finally finishes, but when I look at the resulting movie in Windows Media Player, the last 30 seconds or so are really, really blocky and artifacts are present as the subject moves around (almost as if there aren't enough keyframes). The rest of the movie looks fine.

I tried rendering the same clip as MPEG-1 and Real Media... no problems.

Also, any word yet on the 3.0a update? The MPEG-2 rendering engine is useless as the VBR bitrates don't work.

Thanks!
