Problems installing V10

I decided to upgrade to V10 to solve the AVCHD import problem. Now I have another problem. Will it never end? :)

When trying to install Vegas Movie Studio 10 and it gets to the part where it needs to install Microsoft Windows Media Format 11 Runtime, a couple of windows flash by with the blue progress bar reaching 100% then a blank window that has only the Finish button in the lower right hand corner. Clicking finish makes the window disappear and the installation is aborted.

I've gone to Microsoft's webpage and installed all the x64 Format 11 updates.

Anyone know what else I should try, except maybe giving up on Sony Creative Software?

My system is Win7-64 and I upgraded from VMS9 to VMS10 with no problems. So the upgrade does work. My guess is there is something odd about your system, but what is difficult to say.

There's a posting in the Sony FAQ about how to do a complete de-install of Vegas. It involves some registry edits that are not difficult, so I would try following those instructions. Also, try uninstalling all versions of the Microsoft C++ Runtime software. VMS10 should install the version it needs.

See if this helps:

At the bottom is a link to the uninstall/install information Birk mentioned.

Hoe long did you wait for it to finish?

I did a complete uninstall as explained, installed Windows Media Player 11 as suggested by Sony Tech Support, then tried again to install v10 and it did exactly the same thing. It re-installed the Microsoft C++ programs then tried to install Microsoft Windows Media Format 11 Runtime. I don't know if it was successful. All I got was the blank window with the finish button as before.
