Problems out of nowhere SMS

I have used my Sony Movie Studio platinum 12 for well over a year with no problems whatsoever until about a week ago. The problem started when I imported a clip (it was the same file format that I have always used) and the preview screen was green. I looked online and found that i should change the compoundplug file name. I went ahead and did that and that fixed my green preview window problem. But it created a whole new list of problems. Now my preview window is lagging to the point of barely being able to watch it, my program is not as responsive as it was before and last my render times have dramatically increased. I have tried a fresh install, deleted the cache and tried different file types. The problem still exist. Does anyone have a fix for this?

You don't say what format and codec your video is, but that could be relevant. Especially if you've done something major like upgraded your operating system to Windows 10 or something.

And knowing your operating system might be helpful too.

But first stop would be at the nVidia or AMD/ATI web site to download the latest drivers for your graphics card. That alone could fix it.

I am running Windows 8.1 and the file format is mp4. I also have a Nvidia GTX 760. All Nvidia drivers are up to date. I did notice this problem started shortly after the latest Nvidia driver updates though. I tried to roll back my drivers to an older one but that did not fix the problem.

The "best" driver to use may not be the current one or even one fairly recent. If you look at Pro forum, drivers that are quite "old" are recommended.

I have heard some of the older drivers are better to use. It is strange though I had no problems at all with the last driver and now I can barely use the program. I honestly think some other file may of gottten corrupted somehow. I have run a virus scan and My PC is clean.
