Problems playing DVD

I have upgraded to DVD Architect Studio 5.0 On a Windows 7 Pro laptop. Although the burning of the DVD has no problems and can play back on my computer, when I try to play it on my DVD player it will not play. It tells me the DVD is not playable or recordable. This is a Sony DVD player and fairly new.

Any suggestions?

Did you use DVDA to burn the DVD? Your symptoms are the same as when you burn a video as a data DVD rather than a video DVD. Some burning software gets it right transparently but with Nero for instance you have to select the right mode.

Good point, Peter! If you used a program other than DVD Architect, you often must indicate that it is a playable rather than data DVD.

Beyond that, not all home-burned DVDs will play in all DVD players. Most will nowadays -- but you may want to try the disc in a friend's DVD player to see if it's just your machine.

As I say in my book, though, you can improve the odds that your DVD will work if you:
1) Always use a quality brand DVD disc. Verbatim is one of the best. Memorex is the absolute worst.
2) Never burn your DVD at faster than 4x.
