Problems Rendering ac3 file.

Hello,

I have been playing around with Vegas for a little while now and am
having some problems rendering a simple 5.1 .ac3 audio file..
While previewing the file in Vegas everything works fine.

I have the properties set to 5.1
I have my Audio Device in options set to Direct Sound Mapper.
I have a stereo pair with the left side mapped to Left front and Rear.
As well I have the right side mapped to Right front and Rear.
I am using the center channel for SMPTE time code which I plan
to use to lock with another device.

As mentioned while playing this back live in Vegas everything maps
correctly.

I then proceed to render as 5.1 surround 3/2
After the render process I take the resulting .ac3 file into dvd architect
and it is only playing back a stereo pair with everything mixed only
to the left and right channels...

I have also tried just to render the left channel (just audio), and the right channelas time code. Everthing renders fine, and also plays ok in architect when I do this.. however when I burn a dvd, the seperate mono left and right
channels mix...

What am I doing wrong???????

Thanks Jason

I have noticed that when I go to optimize the dvd before I
burn I get a yellow marker saying it is ac3 stereo... I would
imagine this is probably one of my problems...

Help!

Render with the stock 5.1 AC3 template, no changes, and you should be ok.

The timecode on center thing may require some tweaking of the surround panner settings. For starters I'd try turning off all center speakers except for the TC track, then crank the center level for the TC track only. If the decoder is set up right, there should be no TC bleed.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I was using the stock template but will try
again when I get home from work...

After I render the .ac3 file and import to DVD architect I am assuming
if it is rendered properly as a 5.1 file, DVD architect will not need to
recompress it from an AC-3 stereo file as it is showing up now...

Cheers
