problems with 8.0C and 8.1

I'm finally using my new Vista 64 (SP1) machine ( Q6600 @ 2.4 ghz and 4 GB RAM).
Using 8.0C I keep getting the following pop-up whenever I select any audio fx in a track (ie wave hammer or graphic eq).
Why can't I get Help from this program?

After a little frustration it occurred to me that I should try 8.1 but it locks up and won't respond when I try to preview through a TV (JVC SR VS30 via firewire). Also 8.1 shows wave hammer as not being installed (but 8.0C has no problem with it)

As suggested by the Cow site I have uninstalled both and re-installed 8.1 only but 8.1 still locks up when trying to view on external monitor.
I'm thinking it has something to do with my hardware. Whenever I turn on my deck Windows tries to install drivers for it...it knows it is a JVC SR-VS30 but can't find drivers (I don't recall having to ever find drivers for it on my old 32 bit XP system) and reports it wasn't installed. I have Googled for the 64 bit driver but no luck....any thoughts?
