Problems with Burning DVD and reinstalling

Huipana wrote on 3/10/2007, 11:29 AM
I have used the program in the past and it has worked fine. Now when I am ready to burn the DVD, it doesn't work. It gives me an error message of "One or more file plug-ins necessary for preparing the DVD are missing. Please reinstall the application."

I then go to reinstall and it gives me an error message "movie-DVDS is not a vaild short file name". I even down loaded from the site and update and when trying to run that it gives me the same error message. I don't know what to do to fix the problem so I can burn the DVD.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do to fix the problem. Thanks

Maybe someone else has experienced this and can give you a specific answer...

My 2 guesses would be to uninstall before reinstalling, if you haven't done so already. And to suggest that if you installed any software since you last used DVDS to burn successfully, and *If* that software includes CD/DVD burning or image capabilities, it might have overwritten some files DVDS needs to do it's job - that sort of thing is unfortunately not uncommon with different burning &/or imaging software installed alongside each other.

A 3rd guess might be that something has effected the codec DVDS would normally use.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to check and see if any other programs could of caused the problem.
Though I have tried uninstalling and I get the same message "movie-DVDS is not a vaild short file name". I don't understand how I cannot even uninstall the program.

Anyone know what this message means? Thanks

Based on your not being able to uninstall, & doing some very quick googling, the problem might be related to the windows installer... this *might* help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/

That article is referenced by another talking about the same valid name message but with one of the MS Ofc versions. Searching on just the valid name portion of the error message the hits I checked out all referenced installer problems.

If it doesn't help, and if it is an installer problem, you might contact tech support...
