Problems with HDV and AVCHD

Hi

Like some other people here I am having some challenges with my Vegas 8.0C.

With HDV I have seen the black frame problem and with AVCHD I had soundproblems this morning on a native 1 min. AVCHD file. Suddenly the comes a 'pop' in a certain place on the sound. I play back several times, opens closes Vegas still the same.
If I open the same file (just converted) into another NLE there is no problem.

I would for sure like to hang on to Vegas as long as possible because I love it a lot for many things, so my question is: would Cineform Nero Scene be the way to go?
Will I get trouble free conversion and realtime playback (2 streams in 'good' quality) on a quadcore / 4 GB / fast SATAII drives / XPPro?

If so, the investment is acceptable of $129,- to get it to work. I don't mind using the time on conversion - I do it over night, or when I am away, no big deal for me.
What is a big deal for me is, that when I finally are editing, I need stable and reliable media all the way.

Any input on the Cineform solution is much appreciated - thanks in advance.

/Ulf

As far as avchd goes... you're going to run into problems with ANY editor. None of them actually work 100% with native avchd. If you trade one nle in for another then pretty much the only thing you do is trade one set of problems for another.

The best way to deal with avchd is simply to convert to ANYTHING else and thereby avoid putting avc directly it on the time line altogether. Some are doing this with Cineform, some are doing it with upshift (converting to mpeg)... Either way it's easier than trying muck with avchd.

Cineform does have a trial... give it a shot.

using AVCHD I have found rendering without sound to a folder and then rendering AC3 studio sound to the same folder has the best results - may want to try turning the audio off under the custom tab when you render and then create the audio track separately.

I've seen black frames occasionally while editing from HD, but found they're not actually there when rendered. Sort of like false frames in preview only.

The black frame mostly came from HD MOV file Lumix TZ-5. Preview has been fine otherwise, and rendering much longer on older single processor desktop than duocore processor notebook at 2.3.

I haven't seen the black frames since going with AVCHD from AG-HMC150. I am mostly shooting 1280x720 with it. Rendering is really slow on older machine now, and slow on duocore notebook, but acceptable for me. Perhaps 3-6 times slower.

I tried conversions, but found that took more time than it was worth. Vegas seems to work well with AVCHD from my camcorder, but I am thinking of new desktop with duocore.
