problems with motion menus

On a DVD A project I did, I had two objects that were motion menus on the top page with no other submenus. After I burned these to DVD and played them on my settop DVD player, the motion menus were very choppy, like frames were being dropped. What would cause this? I don't think it's my computer, as I use 2.8 GHZ, 1G RAM, with two hard drives - my operating system and Vegas on a 5400rpm 60G drive and my files and captured video on a 7200rpm 160G drive. Are two motion menus too much for DVD A to handle? Would this problem be solved if I had only one motion menu on the page? Any ideas? Thanks!

Two motion menus are not too much for DVDA to handle. I make DVDs all the time with multiple motion menus (very sophisticated also). So that isn't the issue.

From the specs you listed - it doesn't sound like it would be your system. But even if it were, after you burn it to DVD your system specs wouldn't have anything to do with your DVD playback.

So that narrows it down to either the disc you are using or your TV top DVD player.

I would check the disc to see if it is dirty (fingerprints, etc) - and then I would check the DVD compatibility chart. Maybe your system doesn't really handle burned DVDs. Go to DVDRhelp.com and check out the compatibility chart.

how do you make motion menus?

I'm kind of new to all this, so bear with me. I thought there was only one way to make motion menus, but here is how I do it. After making an object on the main menu, I hit the object index on the right side. Under object properties, I then go to the thumbnail portion, and check thumbnail start time. I put the place where I want the motion menu to start and then check the box entitled, "animate thumbnail". After this, I go back to the "page" index, where I put in the menu length. Everything I do is standard according to the manual. Excuse my ignorance, but I didn't think there was any other way to do this. Is this what you are asking?

TFC,

Yup - that is definately one way to do it. As far as animating the thumbnails are concerned - that is.

But there is another whole side to it when you can create the animation that is used for the "Motion menu". I do all of my editing/creation work in Vegas (well...bring everything in in vegas anyway). I throw in some Photoshop and some Photo Editor and Image Composer - make transparent video loops - make then entire background animated, or portions animated - time it to music and then loop that puppy!!

I have images pop in from different sides of the screen and I make the titles that I want people to click animated (Vegas) and import to DVDA.

There is really no stopping the creativity of the imagination when it comes to Vegas and DVDA.
