Problems with Vegas 4 on network

1. I've just networked two studios. WindowsXP, latest drivers, etc. Sharing is enabled for all drives on both machines. No problems networking between the machines. Except for Vegas 4.0

2. I have Vegas 4.0 on both machines. On Machine 1 I imported several clips, some on Drive D, some on Drive E. I began editing, using clips from both drives, and saved the veg file on Drive D.

3. Several days later I went to Machine 2, opened the veg file (Drive D, Machine 1) in 4.0 and got a message saying "An error occurred, etc."

4. All the files from the Machine 1 D drive are there and loaded on Machine 2; none of the files from Machine 1 Drive E show up, however, and there seems to be no way to get them. The usual msg "Can't find "xxx.avi" wiht a choice to look for the missing files doesn't appear.

Any idea what's going on, and how to fix it. The whole point of networking the two machines was so I could work on one or the other, depending upon what was going on in each studio.

TIA

Since I got no responses to this the first time around, I'll try again. I still haven't been able to resolve the problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you granted "permission" for file folders and files inside.?

Can you be a little bit more specific about what "An error occurred etc" actually is?

If you are getting that sort of error.. then that would imply (to me at least) that something is going on that needs to be fixed. That may very well explain why you do not get the usual prompt to "search" for missing media.

And just to verify this explicitely - can you confirm that you can physically see all the video files that are on "machine 1" while you are on "Machine 2"? That is.. you have shared the drives and you can use windows explorer to see them from Machine 2?

Basically in a perfect world this should work. I do this myself occasionally here although more often I siumply move my removeable drives from one machine to another so I don't often use the LAN to share files.
