Problems with video after making a blu-ray disc

I am using DVD Architect Software 5.0 (Windows 7 64-bit OS). I use videos recorded via FRAPS (either at 29.97 fps or 60 fps) and the videos play fine when I add them to the project and when I preview them (and when I play the video file on my PC). FRAPS makes .avi video files.

The Blu-ray disc is successfully verified when I burn the .iso image via ImageBurn, however, recently, the last 2-3 videos on the disc have no video at certain parts.

Usually, it is at the beginning or end of the video, but sometimes there is no video in several parts of the video. The audio is still there, it's just a black screen. It seems to be @ 2-3 minutes of black screen (usually), but sometimes it can longer. The video's chapter image on the main menu is usually blank (aka clear) if it has this no video problem.

Some projects work fine, others have this problem in the later videos, I can't figure out why it happens and I don't know how to fix it.

The videos play fine when I play the actual video file and they play fine in the project, it's just the disc that is having this problem.

I'm not sure if the .iso image is being made correctly (I don't know how to view the video chapters in an .iso image file) or if it is something wrong with the disc. I have only recently ran into this problem.

Any help with solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I would never recommend using FRAPS video as source video for DVD Architect!

You should use Movie Studio or Vegas for your raw video. Especially when it uses a non-camcorder codec, like FRAPS does.

With DVD Architect, stick with DVD-ready MPEGs and BluRay-ready M2T files!

I'm confused, do you mean convert the FRAPS avi file in Movie Studio and then put it in DVD Architect Studio? I use FRAPS to record my playthroughs of PC games, I don't know how to record this with Movie Studio/Vegas. How do I do that?

Also, I've had problems getting m2t files to work with DVD Architect Studio. There is no audio with m2t files, so I have to convert them to mp4 to work properly. I record console video game playthroughs with AverMedia and that defaults to m2t when I record without it being connected to the pc). It records in 720P HD this way.

When I record with AverMedia connected to the pc, it records it as a 1080P HD avi file. Those files work fine with DVD Architect Studio.

Also, I played the .iso image file with DVDFab ISO player and the no video problem occurs there too, so whatever is causing the problem is happening when DVD Architect Studio is making the .iso file.

I don't understand why this problem is happening now, when I never had this problem with FRAPS movies before.

BTW, the video files play fine with FLV media player, but have audio glitches when played via Windows Media Player. Interestingly, FRAPS recorded video files that were made several weeks ago (@ 10/13) play fine in Windows Media Player, just the more recent files have this problem. I know I updated Windows and my video card driver recently, could that be causing the problem? All updates seemed to install correctly.

BTW, I use dl-b-r verbatim discs with ImageBurn.

BTW, could it be a problem with one of my codecs? I got a message via Action Center about a problem with a codec, but I can't seem to find that message now, so I don't know which codecs are having problems. I believe ffmpeg, ffdshow, and 1 other codec were listed in the problem message.

I'm not sure how to uninstall (or re-install) ffmpeg. I believe I can uninstall ffdshow via its uninstall file, but I forgot where I downloaded it from, so I can't re-install it. What's a safe site to download these 2 codecs from?

Also, I found a Windows 64-bit ffmpeg static build, which has 3 .exe files (ffmpeg, ffplay, and ffprobe), but I have no idea how to install it. Clicking on one of the .exe files just opens up the Command Prompt window for a brief second and that's it.

Any help with this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

Hello King:

You will usually find that files rendered to BD and DVD compliant formats process faster in DVD-A and you can avoid recompression.

What does that mean? It means you are controlling the recompression, if any, in Vegas Movie Studio or Vegas Pro, and you are choosing the render templates, parameters, etc. While it is true that DVD-A can render most files you put in your DVD-A projects, the quality may not be as good as if you prepare a compliant file from Vegas.

Before I understood this, I used to put AVI files from my HDV camera in DVD-A. Then I wondered why the quality looked crappy (can I say crappy?). In my opinion, you will get better results if you render from Vegas and put your compliant files into DVD-A : )

The following list shows some of the compliant files in DVD-A 5.2. You will find a similar list in the DVD-A Studio version if you don't have DVD-A 5.2. The "Help" section will give you a complete list for your version. Then look in the "Render As" diaglog box in your version of Vegas for the corresponding templates.

If you've installed codec packs at the system level, best thing is a complete restore from backup or fresh OS. The uninstallers do not reverse registry changes, and you should keep those things off your editing machine.

I tried uninstalling the Ultimate Codec Pack from my PC, but I'm still getting the problem on some projects.

I'm still not sure how to make separate video titles in Vegas, am I supposed to do 1 title at a time and add it to the Blu-ray project (Blu-ray with menu) and then repeat with all of the rest of the video titles? Having multiple titles in Vegas is what's confusing me.

Also, how do I set the MBps bitrate to 40 MBps for a video in Vegas? The MPEG2 list you posted says that the maximum bitrate for the various templates is 40, but the template name has either 25 MBps or 8 MBps, I want to have 40 MBps (or at least set the maximum bitrate to 40 and have the lowest bitrate as high a number as possible). I know how to do this in DVD-A, but how do I do this in Vegas?

Any help with this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, everytime I try to make a video/Blu-ray with Movie Studio Platinum (64-bit) ver. 12.0, the video has 2 images of everything. It's really annoying. The 2 images partially overlap each other. It is most noticeable when I pause the video, but it is still very visible (and distracting to the eye) when the video is playing (or during preview of the video). (BTW, I am using 1080 HD 24p 25 MBps. template.) I've always had this problem with videos in Movie Studio Platinum, which is why I prefer using DVD-A (since DVD-A doesn't have this double-image problem when making movies/blu-rays).

If your source footage is 29.97i or 60p, you might want to try a Movie Studio template that matches the properties of the media rather than using a 24p template. Do you know how to use the "Match Media" button in the project properties template to select the template that most closely matches your media?
