What board are you using and how much memory? What other equipment?

The computer is a Dell Dimension with 2.8 P4, 512 Ram and an on board audio card.
The computer reckons that the audio card is working.
I have also installed the software for a MOTU firewire audio interface but as yet have not used it.
The timeline will just not play. I've only just installed the software v4b and at present I think I'm only running XP Home not sure whether any service packs have been downloaded. Should that make a difference?
Any help gratefully received.

I would first download all the updates for XP then I would download the update for V4. (V4.0E). Its all free. Then see what happens. The Dell drivers must also be updated. Don't forget the .net from Microsoft.

John,

I'm new to Vegas 5 and am experiencing the same "device specified is in use" error message you were receiving. How did you solve this issue?

Thanks

there seems to be a lot of shoulder shrugging on this issue...
