It's a separate purchase, not included with V9.

I understand that. I just think all updates and improvements should be included in V9 pro and not a separate purchase.

It is NOT an Additional upgrade? It is a separately produced product made by a 3rd party company "VASST" - not SONY. Why do you think this is an UPGRADE? Are you thinking this is a SONY upgrade?

Personally I think it is quite reassuring that there are 3rd party companies willing to invest both R&D on our Vegas. Makes me think that there is much to look forward to with Vegas.

If you pay $354.90 for your upgrade instead of $184.95, then Production Assitant can be included.

I thought it was created by Sony, not VASST.

Looks like Sony packaging to me, idk, did they buy it from VASST?

Or, if you feel like you don't need it, you don't have to pay for it. Lucky you!

As far as it's being a VASST product, they did the programming but it's Sony-branded.

Rob, what does "Sony-branded" mean?

Grazie

Not to speak for Rob, but if you look at the link I posted up a few, the box looks like a "Sony box", and it's being sold by Sony.

So as far as any user is concerned, it's a Sony product, right?
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/24/2009, 12:17 PM
look at the bottom right hand side of the front of the box. it also has the vasst logo, but vasst created or not, it's clearly a sony product.

It's a Sony product. Sony hired the folks behind VASST Ultimate S to create it, but it's a Sony product.

Sony branded would be if VASST sold this, but also let Sony sell a version with a different name. Anyone remember before Sony bought Sonic Foundry's media group, they had the Vegas lite version selling as Sony Screenblast?

Does this only work with Sony Vegas 9? I wonder if Sony had to open up some of it's scripting hooks to make this work.

For clarity, the Production Assistant software is also for Vegas Pro 8c users, too.

Apart from the packaging/branding and the $ 0.95 price difference, what are the important differences between the Production Assistant and the latest Ultimate Pro thing?

w/o getting into it too heavily ( do a search to find ).

Production Assistant, has a little overlap with Ultimate S Pro, but it's really designed to be a super powered batching tool, that will automatically assemble edits for you based on project templates that you make, and then add all kinds of processes to it that are things that you'd have to spend hours make happen (adding bugs across the project at X intervals for Y minutes/seconds at a time, making those bugs transparent, getting X number of frame grabs for chapter images for web stuff, rendering out as umpteen different formats/bit-rates).

Ultimate S Pro is designed to be a project based assistance tool, time saving things from within individual projects that aren't prone to batching in the same way, making unique content rather than just assembling content into a standard template, etc....

for more details search and find your answers :) (look for "Edit Button")

Thanks Dave,
I did a search but didn't open all the threads I found. Internet in Madagascar is like - well I can only drink so much coffee in one morning. Your reply said it all for me, though. I'll go with Ultimate S - if and when.

I should be clear that those are both just samples of a few things that each does.

I use Ultimate S Pro on almost every project, whether it's just using it to normalize all audio, or if it's making half the content that I end up using in a project happen with nearly zero time spent.

Buster and Grazie, to me "Sony Branded" just means that it's sold as a Sony product with Sony's name on it. I don't mean anything more than that. No deeper meaning to the phrase.

One thing I was wondering about is whether Production Assistant could be set up with a complex enough Long Form Test template to allow you to dump a random set mountain of clips into it and do a test render.

This might be helpful for people trying to plan out their long form plans. You could haave a few sets of templates for various scenarios like "all one project" and "1/4 project" and "lots of stills and composites" to stress test your setup.

Or maybe you could share a troublesome veg file and let people fill it with random media.
