Professional Scoring

birdcat wrote on 4/4/2006, 6:40 AM
Hi Kids -

I don't know if this is allowed here so I will be intentionally vague.

I recently recorded two songs I wrote for my upcoming wedding - I had the melody and lyrics (and even a passing semblance of a voice) but did not have an arrangement or professional recording studio. I searched around and came up with a guy who does this sort of stuff (along with a whole lot more) for very reasonable prices (about half of what I paid about seven years ago for a similar project).

I would be more than happy to share his name and contact info here but will refrain until told by the moderators that this is OK with them.

He also does custom scoring, original compositions (with and without words) as well as teach. He also does forensic audio analysis.

Please let me know if I can tell others here.

Thanks.

Bruce

Thanks for asking. Moderators very rarely post replies to general questions, leaving the forum to sort out its own behaviour.
My advise is go ahead. There is not much promotion here, but ocassionally someone will push his own website, commercial scripts or an instructional book/DVD. And of course, users plug software or hardware they've bought and fallen in love with. I'd put your plug in that category; it should offend no one. Might even be helpful to some.

Does he use Vegas (and has he got Acid 6 Pro yet) ?

No - But he does use Sound Forge! He actually has software that was able to take my vocals and dynamically (post recording) bring me back on key for the occassional sharp/flat. That impressed me!

I'll wait a bit more to see if anyone protests and then let the cat out of the bag.

I apologize if I'm intruding on this thread, but if posting his information is okay with moderators and with other forum members, would you folks mind if I also post some info on my similar services?

If it is in conflict of interest, or unfair to other composers/musicians in the group, I will refrain as it may be different for a forum member to pitch a service vs. passing along outside service info for forum members, and I don't want to restrict the latter for the sake of the former.

Occasional postings are fine, imho.

Nobody wants this to turn into a flea market, but many here have benefitted from resources suggested in this forum.

Well, item #7 under "Service Rules" in the "Terms of Service" for the forum states: "You agree not to do any of the following actions while using any Services:...

"Post or transmit any unsolicited advertising, promotional materials, or any other forms of solicitation of a commercial nature while using the Services;... "

In the end, the choice is yours as to what you will or won't do. Then the choice is ultimately the forum's administrators as to whether or not they will enforce the rules and to what extent.

That pretty well sums it up for forum participants at least.

Birdcat - best wishes for your wedding and congrats!!

Perhaps another setting might allow Vegas Users to list what services they offer. I am sure that most here do something with video. But we have a few here (myself included) who are actually run professional recording studios and we dabble with Vegas Video editing but it is not where we shine. I find it tempting to make mention of what services I offer as there are many that would be of use to video editors. But so far I have been hesitent even when responding to topics directly related to what I do.

It would bug me a bit (thats my problem) if someone who was not a Vegas user here is getting their services promoted to other Vegas users while I and others here who use Vegas offer those same services but remain silent.

I agree Bob. It would be nice to have a way to post services, even if in a separate forum; or better yet, just an extra info section in user profiles, with a profiles listing/sort page (rather than looking through individual profiles one by one) - just a listing by service or profession with our own website links - no ongoing ads or sales pitch statements, etc.

However, that is usually more common in privately run forums and I doubt Sony would go for it since it is their business, not any of ours being supported and promoted here.

Thanks Dedric!

I have read some of your posts in the past and agonize with you over the changing landscape of those going for expedient over outstanding.

I just wanted to be able to share a resource that I have used here in the NY area who is exceptional and inexpensive (by my standards). I am glad to see that you and Bob have at least made it known about your services.

With Rule #7 in mind I will simply state that if anyone is interested in the services of the fellow I use, please contact me off list and I will tell you how to get in touch with him.

In the meanshile, you can hear what I did with him here (Yes - I know it's mushy and I can't sing worth a damn, but I'm not looking for critiques here!). I walked into his studio at 1:55 PM with him never hearing this before and I walked out with a CD in hand at 4:00 PM - Not bad!
