Program aborts

Movie Studio 9. Windows XP. Captured previously recorded home video from DVD into MS9. I can edit it, cut it, put titles, etc.
When I try to render it into either AVI or MPG, program aborts after a few minutes of processing. Tried by re-installing MS9, also by creating a new XP on a different partition, then installing MS9. Same results. Tried MS8 under the same environment. Same result.
Am I doing anything illegal ?

Here's a few ideas:
Have a look in Device Manager to see if any drivers need reinstalling. Make sure DMA on hd/s is enabled. Increase paging file/s.

Here is what worked (I am still interested in knowing what could be wrong with the previous attempt):
Played the DVD s thru a DVD player connected to my videocam, which was at the same time connected to the firewire port of the PC. I thus captured DVI files, which I could processed without problems. Then, what was wrong with capturing x.mpg files and processing them?

Create a new project with the same settings, and copy/paste all the contents of the timeline in the new project and then export. Also, if it crashes on the EXACT same spot, then remove that spot or alter it.

It did not abort in the same exact spot. But it aborted after a few minutes, varying.
Even when I tried to render a portion of it (the last portion) still aborted. Sometimes
it even restarted the system, althought it only happened twice.

If it restarted the system, then I am afraid that your problem is probably hardware and not Vegas. Possibly a bad RAM chip, or a bad motherboard...

Well, as I said in my second posting, transfering the video thru a DVD player and my videocam gave me a AVI file which caused NO problems. So the answer is somewhere else...Also, the system runs all other applications fine...
