Progressive titles?

Hello.

I hope somebody might be able to help me with this...

I have a list of names that I'd like to appear on a title page, but would like to transition each name in one at a time - similar to what you might see on a PowerPoint presentation, where each bit of information is just added to the list in a progression.

It doesn't work to use one title track, as each time I transition in a name, every previously written name is affected - I want those that are already there to remain static. I've gotten around this by using the different tracks, but I've only been able to add four names - one for each of the four video tracks on VMS 6.0 that are available.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

mtnmiller

Use "Text" MEdia and keyframes. Start with the first line of text and add each new line at a new keyrame. I think this is what you are trying to do?

You can do this on one track by adding multiple text events. Add the first name in a text event. Copy this event and paste to a new event. When it asks if you want to create a copy or a refernce be sure to choose copy. Add the next name. Copy and paste again, etc. Make sure you create the first event with left justification and set the Placement to Top Left or else each additional name will move the preceeding names.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the "keyframes" idea.

The problem with copying and pasting additional text events, is that I want to transition in each new name with a zoom effect. So when I do the transition, it effects everything that's written on the page, not just the new name that's being added.

Create a new text event on an upper track that contains only the new name. Use whatever transition you want to have that event fade in. Line it up so that when that transition event ends you have the next event with all names including that one starting on the primary track.

Yeah, I tried that one. The only problem is that VMS 6.0 only has four video/title tracks to work with, so I'm only able to add four names to the list. After that, I run out of tracks to use.

I think what Chien is saying is use one track for the static names, and use one track just to fly in or zoom in each name.

Here's the main track, with either three separate text events, or maybe one text event with 3 keyframes:
Joe Smith................Joe Smith...................Joe Smith
...................................Bill Jones...................Bill Jones
........................................................................John Doe

Now use a second track just to fly in the names. When only Joe Smith is on the screen, you have text item on this upper track that is flying in or zooming in or fading in the "Bill Jones" name. Use a keyframe at the end of that event to make sure the name on the screen lines up right over top of "Bill Jones" where it is displayed at the start of the second group of names.

Once the second group of names is present, you can now use the same "fly in" track to now fly-in the third name.

That makes sense. Will give that a go. Thanks for the help.

Now for part II - Know of any good sound effects page with a "whoosh" when flying in the names?

Didn't find anything that really fit on the 1,001 sound effects disc in Platinum VMS.

That's how I've done it. I used a "still" track and an "animations" track. The title flys in on the animation track, and then I create an event on the still track with the same text. Then another animation event flys new text in on the animation track. I copy the previous still event to a new event on the same track and add the new text that flew in on the animation track. So when the animated event ends (the final location for the text) the animated text is essentially moved to a new still event that contains all text up to that point. Repeat until done. You can tweak the X/Y offsets in the final keyframe of the animated event so that it matches the same location in the next still event that contains the same text.

There are a lot of sites where you can get sfx, but I can't think of any specific ones. If you've loaded any games on your pc it's probably worth having a look for short wav files. I'd use them with care though - the first one is amusing, but they get irritating very quickly!

I tried out the keyframing last night. Worked well. Thanks for the advice.

Also found a great sfx site - www.sounddogs.com.
