Project Geography...

Dear Fellow Videographers,

(Edit: Not sure why is says Ignore this User next to my name. This is my first post on the Vegas forum. If anyone can tell me what I need to do that would be great.)

We are undergoing more educational cuts at our school as I write this. I would like to assist my daughters 9th grade honors Geography/History teacher with her class. Our budget is limited and materials are hard to come by. She is teaching from a 6th grade level book because of it. I would like to get videos from several other countries showing real families/people (real audio), some architecture, the lay of the land, maybe specific spots of interest, major cities, maybe an interview with English speaking teenagers if possible or with interps or sub titles.

Basically a short documentary about where you are from or have visited. I can't pay you. Any one donating will be doing it to stretch the minds of students in central Missouri, to let them know this is a big world. And that there are things that concern us on a much bigger scale. You would simply be contibuting to an educational project. You can plaster your name all across so it can't be reused if you like. I have no interest in it other than to widen the scope of the program with fresh new material. If I can reciprocate I will. I will need proper over seas shipping addresses.

Here is the hitch, it needs to be in NTSC format on dvd preferably or vhs if you prefer. 20 to 30 minutes would be great. Longer if the material is truly there. Please edit to keep the interest of a teenager. Also, anyone in some of the other geographical regions here is the US is welcome to contribute and I will be happy to reciprocate if you like.

Is there anyone from around the globe interested in...

Project Geography

Please send me a personal message and I will talk to you about it further.
Thanks,
Laura

don't worry about the "Ignore User" thing. It is not anything personal - that link comes up against all of us... and it is there to allow people to add US to their "Ignore User" list.

I like your idea... and very much support the concept of connecting the young minds in our country with those in outher countries / cultures.

I can probably let you have a VERY early rough cut on a documentary I am producing which gives some idea about how the Iranian people think about Americans who visit their country. It includes some interviews with young people that I met while I was there last year.

Let me know if you would like to get a copy (click on my name... and you will find a link to email me).

Laura,
Welcome to the Vegas forum! Great seeing you here. You'll likely find it a lot less contentious than the other forum you're in. ;-)
Great idea! I've got some Dine' kids..but no subtitles. Will that help? It's in part English and part Dine.

Laura.....

I do tech work by day at a school district and sound and video as a second job. I know exactly where you are coming from on the budgets. They expect more and more...No Child Left Behind comes along requiring more and more...then they cut funding. Parents fuss when you talk about raising taxes but then fuss becasue their kid isn't getting the information they need. OK...enough.

What we are doing in our district now (South Carolina) is using Discovery Education's streamlined videos. ( United Streaming ). The videos are fantastic and hardly a subject comes up that you can't find video for. We have downloaded and streamed hundreds this year. They play through windows media player (.asf) and are large enough to see but small enough to download fairly quickly on a T1 line. I have one teacher who downloads at home over a dial up connection. (takes awhile but can be done) It is subscription based. So why am I telling you this? They have a 30 day free trial. You may be able to get all you need in that time. I believe it is fully functional. The teachers love it.!!

If you have other questions, post your email and I'll give you some other suggestions or help.

Good luck.
