Project Manager on 585 Clip Project

Well, I am working on a one hour documentary for a private foundation. I have 585 clips in Project Manager, and I wanted everyone to know that it isn't ready for prime time. Constant crashes. I know I'm probably one of the first people to try editing a large project using Manager. I like the features---logging is really very nice, but it isn't stable enough to handle a project this size. Back to my Excel Spreadsheet.

I dunno, Rex....Muttley and I have a project that's easily got that many pieces going on, and not only is it loaded with "stuff" but we're exchanging the veggies by email and cross-editing.
I don't doubt there are problems, but between Ray and I, I'm only aware of 3 crashes thus far. Could it be that there isn't enough RAM or something? The NAB project we completed recently has over 1000 clips that were almost all QT in 4 different codecs, this is part of what we showed at Artbeats booth. No probs, other than it takes a long time to boot, so you don't want to boot in front of an audience.
Ray might have a different comment, or Cheno, but frankly, we've done several fairly media-intense projects in 6, and as long as you know the issues (keyframe/bezier mask, some filter weirdness...) it hasn't been a problem at all.
What's going on in your RAM? Amount of free HD space? Page files/Swap iles happening? Thumbnails on in Project Media? Thumbnail size? Lotsa metatags or no?

ram seems to be okay--loads of metatags--Working in list mode loads of drive space---I'll kee playing.
