Project Name - Error

Just installed Vegas Studio HD version and I get the new project window popup but can't get further. When I enter my "Project Name" and then hit next I get an error popup window with this ...

"Read Only or invalid path. Please correct it"

I have changed the directory to many places outside of the default, like the C: Drive, C:/Video, a desktop location, among a few others and still get this error?

Running Vista with User Account Control off and 32 bit.

"C:/Video"

Did you try selecting the location by browsing or by typing? The slash goes the other way "\".

Right that was a typo during this post as I should have wrote "c:\Video" but inside of Vegas I used the browse button to go to "c:\" and then typed in video in the project name box.

As the above was not my first attempt. Right from the beginnig the default folder [in my documents] "Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0 Projects\" folder gave me the same error message.

VMS is very easy to uninstall and reinstall. Might be a quick fix (although a bit brutish).

markk655 thanks but the uninstall/re-install did not fix the error. Without being able to open a new project, I can't use the software - a bit frustrating for a potential purchaser....plus I am losing a day of the trail 30 days.

Does Sony support answer trail software questions as I am interested in getting this to work?

Found this and problem solved ...

Read only error message when creating project

Question
Creating a project in Vegas Movie Studio, ACID Music Studio, or Sound Forge Audio Studio causes an error message to appear indicating that the default file path for the folder the software is writing into is Read Only. How do I fix this?

Answer

To resolve the problem, please try the following steps:

On Windows XP:

1) In the Start menu, select "Run..."

2) In the Run dialog, type or paste the following text:

cacls "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents" /G Everyone:F

3) Click OK in the Run dialog.

4) A command window will appear and prompt you "Are you sure (Y/N)?". Type Y and press the Enter key.

5) You should now be able to create a project using the project creation wizard (Project > New)

On Windows Vista/Windows 7:

1) Click on the Windows flag in the lower left (Start)

2) In the Start Search dialog, type or past the following text:

cacls "C:\Users\Default\Documents" /G Everyone:F and then Enter.

3) A command window will appear and prompt you "Are you sure (Y/N)?". Type Y and press the Enter key.

4) You should now be able to create a project using the project creation wizard (Project > New)

If you still are unable to create a destination folder for your new project, here is a workaround:

1) Go to Help > Show Me How...

2) Choose the tutorial "An Overview of Vegas Movie Studio/Platinum/HD

3) You'll see an option in the second paragraph that says "If you don't already have a project started, click here and I'll create one for you." Click the link to open a sample project.

4) You can save this project under a new name using Save As. Then, you can clear out the timeline and build whatever project you wish.
