When I select a template (custom) and select the match media settings it does not allow a full HD match (1920x1080). It resets the width to 1440.
Anybody knows this phenomena and how it affects the end results? Should I be bordered?
Also, select a clip in the project bin and read what it says in its status bar. Does it say 1440 or 1920? You see, HDV and most AVCHD cameras still record in 1440x1080 with aspect ratio 1.333. This means that it will be played back stretched, as 1440x1.3333=1920, but the real pixel count remains 1440.
However, if your camera REALLY records as 1920 (only about 3-4 consumer AVCHD cameras do so), then there might be a quality problem, yeah, in which case you would need to wait for Platinum 9 or buy Vegas Pro 8.
Yes, this camera can do full 1080p (1920x1080) in its HD FH 16Mbps mode. While VMS 8.0d has added support to accept these files, it does so by down-resizing them. I am afraid you will have to wait for VMS 9 Platinum, or buy now Vegas Pro 8. Or, move to another editor altogether that does what you need. Alternatively, you can decide to NOT record in full HD, and instead record in its other modes, that are 1440x1080, so this way VMS Platinum supports your footage correctly.
I agree that this was a stupid limitation of Platinum, because when Platinum came out there were consumer cameras already that had full 1080p support, plus this SR10 and SR12 models were under development from the same company: Sony. That, and the inability to customize the Sony AVC codec are the two biggest gripes for me on VMS Platinum.
