Project properties and effect on final rendered image?

Does the size of a project as determined by the properties template screen have any effect on the final rendered image?

For instance, if I have a project set to 852x480 and then output to 640x405, does this mean it renders to 852x480 and THEN resamples to 640x405, or would it always render directly to 640x405 regardless of the project's main settings?

As far as I can tell that whole size setting mainly seems to relate to the preview window size, but I was hoping to be sure.

If you have a project PROPERTY set to 852 x 480, it won't affect the final render, it will only make editing difficult because your project properties are different than your RENDER settings. You need to either set up a template for rendering, or for project and rendering settings if you want to stay the same throughout. You can control every aspect of the render AND the project as either being the same, or being different. Project properties are based on what you're working on, render settings are based on what you'd like your final output to be. It's fairly uncommon to have Project settings be different than Render settings, but it is possible. However, whatever your project settings are at has no relative value to what your final output is, unless you set your final to be identical to the Project. Keep in mind, if they aren't the same, and you're doing panning, cropping, track motion, anything that affects screen real estate or aspect ratio, you're going to have problems.

Thanks for the information. Actually I've found panning/cropping/motion etc. translates perfectly no matter what the project properties or render sizes are - they're all adjusted correctly and automatically, even if the project properties is changed in the middle of a project.
