project properties, maximum width=800?

I've recorded a video tutorial on my computer at a resolution of 1024x768. After editing it in Vegas Movie Studio I want to render it. However I have noticed that in the project properties dialog, I can not set the video width to be larger than 800 pixels. When I type in 1024, the program automatically changes it to 800. Is this a hard coded limit in Vegas Movie Studio that is not mentioned anywhere in the user manual? :(

No, VMS is not like that :-))

It is a good idea to set the properties for the project to the final resolution before any editing - else you can i.e. risk that generated text are generated with a "wrong" resolution and then become "drawn" or unclear when you render to another format.

You may, however, change the resolution etc. at render time just by clicking Make Movie, Template Custom, then click Video near the bottom and the specify whatever parameters you desire.

If this is a format that you will use often, you may even give it a name and save it for future projects.

Ok, good to know. I started a new project, went into the project properties and tried to set the width to 1024. It automatically resets back to 800. What is going on?

When I go and render, I can choose a custom template to use and under the video tab, the program lets me choose a resolution of 1024x768. HOWEVER as soon I click OK to use the new template, I get am error message that says:
The custom template you selected is not valid with the current project settings. It has been filtered out of the template list. I can not render using my custom template if the resolution is set to 1024x768. It works find if I reduce my width to 800 through!

Which version of Vegas are you using? I know the full Vegas had an 800 limitation until a few versions ago. I'm not sure if the studio version still has this limitation or not.

This is really strange - and there is ceartainly no such limit in 6.0.

May I try a wild guess: Is your version regisrered? i.e. there are normally some funny limitations in trial-versions (which I however do not know because I always update to the very latest eye-candy that Sony offers:-))
