project with both photos & video questions

i'm working on our vacation video which is a mix of digital photos and video. i'm trying to figure out if i want to use one track for both, or put the photos on one track and the video on another. my questions are:

1. both on one track. i want to use the "reduce interlace flicker" on my digital photos. if i do select events to end, the set the reduce interlace flicker, will that cause any bad effects for my video events on that track?

2. separate tracks. i wouldn't mind doing this, but i don't think i can do crossfades and other transition effects between events on different tracks. is this true?

let me know how you would handle this type of project.

thanks.

Put them all on one track. Set the switch on each individual photo to reduce interlace flicker.

One nice thing about placing photos on a separate track is that you can apply the gaussian blur filter to the whole track instead of each picture. Also, if you add a picture, it's already covered by the track filter in case you forget. Not a huge deal, but a small time saver.

Yes, you can still do your crossfades, but it will require a little more thought. To do say a 1 second crossfade, fade the top track OUT by 1 second, fade the bottom track IN by 1 second, then have the ends overlap by 1/2 second. It's easier to do than explain. One thing you can do is do your crossfade, then drag the video straight up/down to the new track and see how it's set up.

I've done it both ways (single/2 tracks) and all worked fine.

jjk - i have 191 photos, so i would prefer to not have to do that. do you know if reduce interlace flicker is bad for video tracks?

kent - i done that before with crossfades on two tracks. is there way for all the other transitions do work with two tracks?

Some may not work. I've never really looked at that.

What you could do, say if you were going from video to a picture via some sort of spin transition is just put the first picture you are transitioning *to* on the same track as the video, do your transition, then place subsequent pictures on the seperate track.

That way you could get your desired transition, but have nearly all pictures on a seperate track.

I believe I've read somewhere here that you can do transitions on separate tracks. You have to drag the transition from the transitions window to the end of the first event(on track 1) and then drag the same transition to the beginning of the second event (on track 2). Then, overlap the tracks by the appropriate amount.

I've never actually done this, so I'm not sure, but I think this is what I've read. Give it a try.
