Project won't fit!!!

Hi, I'm a newbe and would really appreciate some help.

I have just edited a project, it lasts about 1 hour 45 minutes.

i created the MPEG 2 file and went to create the DVD in Architect but I'm over the capacity.

What settings would be acceptable for create the DVD? The default bitrate is 8.000 mbps but I'm afriad of setting the levels too low.

Shopuld I go back and render the project again? If so, at what bitrate is generally acceptable?

Currently the estimated size of the project is 6,244.2 MB (130% of 4.700 GB media).

It's my first wedding video project and I want to make it as good as possible!

Thanks for all your help and my apologies if this is a stupid question...

If you are working with Vegas, you can save your file as an AVI, bring that into DVD-A, and then have DVD-A create the MPEG2 file. It will choose the bitrate necessary to make it fit.

Alternatively, if you want to encode in Vegas, you'll need to use an external bitrate calculator to figure what bitrate to use. Here's the link to the bitrate calculator many people use:

You don't give very many specifics as to how you encoded your files (CBR vs VBR//program stream or elementary stream//what type of audio--mpeg vs ac3 vs wave//etc.), so it makes it a bit harder to help out.

If you use compressed audio (like ac3 at 192 to 224 kbps), and if you encoded your video at 8000/CBR, then you could only fit about 75 minutes on a disc. If you encode your video as VBR, with an average of ~5000-5500 and a max of 8000, then you should be able to fit it.

Even if you had a CBR/8000 video with uncompressed wave for audio, the total file size shouldn't be 6 gigs. DVD-A can way overestimate the project size if you import a program stream (combined video and audio) alone. You need to bring in the program stream, and then also bring the audio in on top of it. You may have done this, but it's the only explanation I can see (unless you have a lot of motion menus) to give you such a large project estimate.
