Project won't render in 6.0c

Probably did a dumb thing but I updated Vegas from 6.0b to 6.0c half way thru my project which I started 4 weeks ago. Master file uses a series of nested veg files which lasts a total of 58 minutes. Trying to render to DV NTSC Main Concept. I have never had a render problem until now.

Computer is P4 3.2 dual processor with an NVidia GeForce 5300 and 1G memory. Tried rendering at least 12 times in the last 24 hours and rendering will go anywhere from 1% to 50% before getting an error message.

Tried opening the case and running a fan thinking the CPU was overheating. Not the case.

Ctrl+Alt+Del and checking processes shows only one instance of Vegas running.

Need to get this project completed by Oct 28th.

Any thoughts of what to do?

You are lucky. I am in worst stuation than you.

My Vegas 6C "render as" option has mpeg1 and mpeg2 option missing
after my Vegas 6c required me to re-input my serial nos and re-activation.

I submitted my problem to customer service and have to wait for reply.

My thought to this problem is that the window registries corrupted..
A new window will solved this problem

Wait and see if I can get solution without a re-format.

Onion ..

This sounds just so familiar to my problem . . Yes I too ran an external fan . .. yes I didn't have probs with V6b . . . Yes I only got a variation of 2% to 55% . . . . it ALL sounds just too familiar.

In the thread below we all had a bit of a laugh about my predicament, no problem there, but please PLEASE have a real close inspection at the the air intakes of your PC and CHECK to see if you can actually SEE the CPU cooling fins thru' the cooling fan's blades . . please please check 'em out.

The thread does have links to my situation and the before and after improvement.

I really hope the solution was as easy as mine turned out. WARNING if you do do the cleaning TURN off the PC and make sure you treat the cleaning of the components with CARE!

You ahve the same PC muscle as I - and it was only when I updated to V6c that my machine finally weakened under the pressure of a filthy cooling system . ..

I have the same problem, but want to test some poster's theory that there may be a connection to Windows XP's service pack 1. Are any of you running SP1 and not 2?

Originally, I thought is was running SP2 when my problem began. Wrong, I was still using SP1. Thought I would update to SP2 and all would be well. With SP2, I was still unable to render completely. Was able to render anywhere from 1% to 24% after three attempts.

Checked the CPU for crud. Squeaky clean. Thought I would render again with 6.0c my last successful project I did with 6.0b to see if there is a render problem.

I read your earlier thread regarding CPU dust and power supply issues. I wonder if I may have a power supply issue as my system is rated at 300 watts.

300w is too low for most of today's machines, in my opinion. Get a good name-brand 450w to 500w.
One less thing to worry about.

I don't want to, but increasing the power supply is probably unavoidable. It's tough living on a shoestring!

As long as you don't need a "zero decibel, liquid nitrogen cooled" model, they are very reasonably priced. 300w is not adequate for a modern processor and for the normal needs of the people on this board: cpu demand, firewire/usb external devices, etc.

You can search the board for "power supply" for previous discussions on this topic and recommended brands.

Tried previous completed project of 58 minutes and it rendered fine in 6.0c. Must be that nested vegs take more power to render. Bigger power supply may be the ticket.

Running WinXPro SP1.

Run WinXPro Sp2 before and it's slow down my performance and have
my IEEE1394 problem that device not found.

Reversed back to SP1. And very happy with SP1 but have to put up
with the irritating message to update to SP2.

OK, I got back my mpeg1 and mpeg2.

This is what I did.

Uninstall V6 and VMSp6.
Used Crap Cleaner (free software) - run "Issue" and fix issue.
defrag and reboot.

Install V6. Now everything is back.

Got the same problem here since I upgraded from b to c.
Definately not a CPU heat problem as I built my computer myself and the fan I use is HUGE (I get temps of 54C full load which is very good)

Guess it's a problem with Vegas...
