Keep in mind, your pixels aren't .909 for the wmv, they're square. The closest you'll come there would be 512 x 384. Divisible by 8, this makes for a good size if you can manage it.

Spot,

...thanks...no problemo for 512x384....but, I need to prepare some still photos...thinking of preparing them at 720X480 for the DVD and then render as 512x384 for the WMV project ...... need to use the same timeline to produce the DVD and the WMV .... don't think the distortion should be that great....I hope....

It won't be too great...just render a small section, i think you'll be quite happy. You can also view square pixels by right clicking in the preview window and choosing that preview option.

Make your stills 640x480, or any other 4:3 ratio. Do not use 720x480.

Well....if he's using the same timeline, and creating a stream from an already rendered avi...it's gonna be 720 x 480 original source. Encoding that non-square source to square format will be 640 x 480, so using divisibles of 8 to get as close to a 500 pixel width, the 512 x 384 will get him close, keep the aspect, and make the encode be as good as it can be. (640 times .8 or slightly more than three-quarters of full rez)
Stills in Vegas are automatically dealt with if the Pan/Crop tool is applied at correct aspect. Otherwise, images should be 655 x 480 or 720 x 576. Then the square pixels will stretch properly if nothing is applied to them.
