ProTools vs Vegas Internal Mixing

I've been reading recent posts about mixing within the DAW system and read some other posts in other forums. I know that Vegas converts everything to floating point while internally mixing which implies, what, 64 bits of resolution using double floating math? I've read that ProTools is internally mixed at 24 or 48 bits internally. Is this due to the nature of the TDM format and it fixing the resolution?
Just wondering how they compare.

Internally Vegas mixes at 32 bit floating point. We don't support double precision yet.

TDM is a different beast entirely. Can't compare apples and oranges.

I will leave it to others that have TDM experiance and have compared the relative merits of the TDM hardware and native processing.
