ProType Titler: Holding a Keyframe

rtbond wrote on 11/18/2007, 9:22 AM
Folks,

I am just playing around with the ProType Ttiler in V8. If I chose a title from the Collections in the preset toolbar and drag it to the Timeline it creates a number of keyframes for a collection of attributes that control the title's behavior.

I would like to hold the title after it initially appears and then allow the pre-defined animations to take place (like with the "Float and Pop" preset, where I like to hold the title on the screen before it floats and pops away) . How do I do this without having to manually adjust reach and every keyframe?

Thanks!

Rob Bond

you can break it up in to two events. One is your starter & one if the finisher. Works really really good (if you increase the time of the event it stretches the keyframes to fit, so you can't do that).

A couple of approaches:

(I'm using as an example the "Float and Pop" collection and introducing a 2 second "hold" on the initial title before floating and popping)

1. Whilst these seems no facility to "insert time" as such, you CAN select a number of keyframes and move them as a group. Simply select each keyframe with Ctrl-Click. In your example, I selected every keyframe except those at time "0" and dragged them left by two seconds.
Unfortunately we can't drag the keyframes at time 0 to the right, so, in order to "hold" the initial view we have to make a note of the settings at time 0, place the timeline cursor at 2 seconds and set the values of any parameters that have changed to the values as at time 0. In this example just the "Y offset" for character "f" needs resetting to 0 and the opacity of character "f" needs resetting to 100.

2. Instead of thinking in terms of ProTT, think in terms of NLEs. First RENDER the sequence which doesn't have the hold, then take a snapshot of the first frame. Insert that snapshot in front of the rest of the sequence. Job done! Amend with a split if the frame you wish to hold is not the first.

Option 1 does highlight another shortcoming of ProTT - thesre seems to be no method of setting a keyframe at a precise time other than by stretching the timeline Window. Having a start/stop/duration area which allowed one to enter a time (as per the Vegas timeline) would be a useful facility.

You got in while I was typing! But I'm not sure I understand***. I just tried it with float & pop.
I split the event after 1 frame, moved the rest to the right then stretched the first event to fill. Unfortunately the first event didn't just repeat the first frame - it started to float!

*** Or to put it another way - I'm sure I don't understand. Idiots guide required!

I make the event I want for the start. IE I have the words fly on to screen (fade, whatever) to their ending position for that sequence.

Then I make another event, drop in my preset. I use the font size/position/etc. & set that as the start settings for the new event.

the key is two separate non-related events.

Doh!
Tunneled vision on my part. For "break it up into two events", I inferred start with one event then use Split.

i'd say my wording was a little confusing. :D

Is there a basic tutorial available for ProType?

I've just gotten started with it, and can't make sense of the simplest items. Just a beginners overvue of processes would be great.
