PTT - 4.0d

Downloaded the update. First time I went to print my project to tape (I wanted to pass the signal through my camcorder to my VHS), I got a warning about disabled mouse control for full screen preview. Try as I might, I could get no signal to flow to (let alone through) the camcorder. I discovered what is to me a new drop down menue concerning the <TRANSPORT>. I can select under PRINT TO TAPE to capture from, preview to, or print to the device. None of those options would get the signal to the camcorder, however. I kept getting a full screen preview on my computer monitor.

Only when I went into preferences and, under PREVIEW, disabled <allow full screen preview . . .etc> was I able to go ahead and send the signal to the camcorder (and, hence, the VCR).

Is this a new feature, or have I missed it somehow in previous versions? Have a stumbled onto how to use it correctly?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

This can be cam-corder dependent, and as much it also may be that your system can't draw frames fast enough for a full-screen preview and print at the same time. Connect the cam to a television if you want to watch the print take place. It will show you errors better in most cases anyway.

Either I didn't state my question correctly, you didn't read it correctly, or I'm mis-reading your reply.

I have been using my system with VV (thru version 2h, I believe), then VV3.0, and V4.0c. Never had a need for full screen (computer monitor) preview while printing to tape - by the time I'm ready to print to tape, I'm usually sick of seeing the piece, anyhow.

In VV3.x and previous builds of V4.0, I simply disabled camcorder control, loaded the file to be printed, hit the print to tape button, then, observed (either on my TV-connected to my VCR, or on the lcd of my camcorder) to confirm that the signal is being passed to those components, then, stop and restart the process, this time with the VCR in record mode, to complete the process.

Today was my first PTT attempt using V4.0d which I just downloaded and installed from this forum.

That's when I discovered the behavior unfamiliar to me with this full screen (computer monitor) preview that would not allow any signal (either the preview or print to tape) to reach the camcorder via the firewire.

I had allowed myself 1 1/2 hr to print this 50-minute piece to be reviewed by my client. Until I could stumble around and find that "allow full screen preview . . ." checkbox to disable the feature, I had used up all my 20 or so minutes of cushion time.

My post here is to determine if 1) this is a feature new to build 4.0d - 2) what purpose is it supposed to serve (ok, I can see full screen preview, but, given full screen preview, why would one need full screen print to tape that gets delivered to the computer screen but won't go anywhere else 3) or am I miss using the feature in some way?

Thanks for your reply and any others that come my way.
