Here's how I applied the "popup" collection to a small slice of existing text. This may not be the only way or best way or workable for all lengths of text but it helps me to learn to try to explain what the heck I did to get this to work at all and hopefully someone else can point out the holes in this approach --- result is we learn more about how PTT works.
1. Copy the existing text via Ctrl C.
2. Drag PTT "empty" to the main timeline. PTT should open.
3. Click on "collection" in the preset toolbar.
4. Choose "popup" and drag it to the PTT timeline.
5. Close the PTT window to clear the preset menu. (anyone know a better way?)
6. Reopen the PTT window. The Preview window should be black.
7. Click within the PTT timeline anywhere but on the time ruler to reveal the cursor.
8. Drag the cursor to the right until the effect is fully revealed in the preview window.
9. Double click just to the right of the text to position the edit cursor at the end of text.
10. Use the backspace key to delete all of the word "popup".
11. Use Ctrl V to paste in the existing text.
11. Press Esc to exit text edit mode.
12. Close the PTT window.
11. Hopefully the effect runs but requires adjustments.
13. Reopen PTT to edit the text (size, placement etc.) Here's where the
trouble can begin. It's easy to destroy the effect in editing.
Maybe someone else can give us a step-by-step in how PTT achieves the popup effect. Looking at the PTT timeline in detail, it's not so easy to see how it was done and why it breaks down while editing the text.
