PTT - set program priorities higher???

Recently I mentioned that I was (still) having minor probs with PTT - say, one minor stutter in 20 minutes or so of PTT. It was suggested that I use Task Manager to up the priority of Vegas to "High." So, firing up Vegas and opening the "Capture" programs, I accessed them in Task Manager (Vegas30.exe and vidcap.exe) and right-clicked. Get six priority options: Real Time, High, Above Normal, Normal, Below Normal, and Low.
Dell Inspiron 8200 w/ XPHome.

Set both up from default Normal to High. Found that if you close and reopen, the settings revert to Normal. So, opened both, upped priorities to High - and the PTT stutters increased in frequency significantly!

Huh? Why would that happen? Any input? (Besides the obvious "Doctor, it hurts when I do this . . .) And what is Real Time? I haven't been able to uncover a definition in XP glossary or help. Should I just bump vidcap.exe to Real Time and leave Vegas30.exe at Normal, along with everything else?

Mind you, the only problem is with PTT, all else works fine.

TIA, Grob

I'm not an XP expert.

I would try moving vidcap.exe to "above normal", and moving vegas30.exe along with any other program (not drivers) to "below normal".

The higher the setting, the harder it is to interrupt a process. "Real Time" is "real hard" to interrupt. Putting an application there can have "undesireable" effects when the drivers that the application is waiting for can't interrupt the application.

Anyway, since your PTT problems are minor, I recommend trying gentle approaches to solving them.

Best Luck,

John.
