Purpose of Regions

Can someone explain the purpose of regions on the timeline to me. What do you use it for?

I know it is valuable in the trimmer because you can save them and add those regions wherever you like. However, I would rather cut my gigantic clip on the timeline. I would like to be able to save information on my cuts (in/out/name/etc.) and move it around as necessary. Is this possible from the timeline?

don't need no fancy scripts...just grab the end of the cut with your cursor, click and drag. It'll change the in/out point for ya.

Bill,

I meant if I assign regions on timeline, i want them to move if I move my clip and maintain the settings relative to the clip. Is this possible from the timeline?

Hover over the buttons on the toolbar. One of them deals with Markers and whether they should move.
