Purpose of Ripple Edits

One of my little pet peeves is if I remove a small portion of a video clip I have to manually move the other clips together on timeline to cover the open space.

My understanding is that "Ripple Edits" is susposed to do this. But it seems to have no effect.

I have gone into the options and tried it with Ripple Edits on and Ripple Edits off and it has no effect. What am I doing wrong? Even the help file says with Ripple Edits on it should shift the rest of the clips to the left.

OK on more careful review it says that it is only availabe when time selection is used. It does not work if I have 3 clips on the timeline and I select the middle clip and delete it. Would be nice if it worked but I can also see where that could be a problem.

Hello,
try this,
1. make sure ripple edit is turned on (Ctrl + L)
2. select the track the event/clip is on.
3. select your middle clip region - or if you just double click on it, the you'll get the region of the clip.
4. press the delete key on your keyboard

Ok that works. I just double clip on the middle clip (of 3 separate clips) which creates a time selection and then delete and I get the Ripple edit effect.
