There are several cheaper ways to do this, especially considering that the current version of (Pinnacle?) Studio is 8, not 6. You can get a firewire card for MUCH less without software. Then, again, there are people selling them on eBay for $9.99 WITH VideoStudio 5 (current version, is 6, I believe.).

Try a search on eBay for "PCI 1394" and look for OHCI type cards. Beware of high shiping charges for low cost cards.

If you have Vegas Video, all you really need is an OHCI-compliant card, no additional software. You should be able to find a version of the Pyro card that comes without software - check the ADS web site. I recently purchased a Pyro Basic 1394 Video Card, popped it into my computer and started capturing video through Vegas immediately, no snags.

The simplest method is just get any 1394 OHCI-compliant card (firewire) and don't forget the firewire cable. You'll probably need a mini-firewire connector at the camera end and a larger firewire connector at the PC side. Total cost retail should be $35-40 or less.

While we're on the subject, is anyone using the 1394 port on the Audigy 2 for capturing and output with Vegas? Is it working, any problems with specific cams, etc.?
